aviation photography

I first picked up a camera at an airport in 1984 - at the relatively tender age of 21. Living beneath the flight path to London Heathrow's bustling runways I am old enough to remember, and have recorded, many airliners and indeed airlines no longer with us. Fellow enthusiasts often bemoan today's lack of variety and yearn for another more jet smoke-filled age. While I share many of those wistful dreams of the past, we also need reminding that there is still much excitement and variety to be recorded and indeed enjoyed. For our select band there's nothing quite like immersing oneself in the bustling ambiance of aircraft, airports and the vibrant personalities of the airline industry.

Unsurprisingly, this website is peppered with examples of my work over the years and from around the world. To get a more concentrated, yet varied, view, take a moment to check out my 'Air'chive. I started taking photos in 1984 and this collection of images isn't even  the tip of a very large iceberg. For a glimpse below the waterline I suggest you check out my catalogue of work uploaded to JetPhotos.com. (JP) I currently have around 22,000 images on the site and have just reached the landmark of 30 million views. Over the years, hosting a selection of my images on this site has generated significant interest, sales and has taken my work to a global audience.

JP is the world's largest online collection of aircraft images. Photographers from around the globe contribute to its vast database of over six million images making it a rich resource for viewing detailed photographs of various aircraft, airports, and airlines. The site features a stringent photo submission process to ensure high-quality images. It serves not only as a photographer's gallery but also as a reference for professionals in the aviation industry, including pilots, airlines, and aviation historians. In 2015 JP was acquired by the owners of flight tracking service Flight Radar 24. Since then, when clicking on a flight, users see the latest photo of that aircraft drawn from the JP database. This link brings the JP database to a far greater and wider audience.

Like all aviation photographers I have favourite locations and indeed favourite regular trips which are reflected in my collection -
• Sint Maarten (SXM)
• Dusseldorf (DUS) and Frankfurt (FRA) in the 1980s and 1990s
• Alaska - both Anchorage (ANC) and Fairbanks (FAI)
• South Florida - including Miami (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL and FXE ).
• Zurich (ZRH) - in particular 17 annual trips since 2005 to record traffic during the AGM of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos-Klosters

From the very start I have been an unashamed 'Canon man' using high quality equipment suited for most situations and conditions. I am happy to sell high definition copies of any of my images - both modern and from the large back archive. I am happy to do so for both commercial and personal use - with the usual caveats and restrictions and the rule that I never sell the copyright to my work.
